I apologize for failing to give you the choices to yesterdays trivia question, so here goes the choices. Who claimed to have purchased the Liberty Bell as an April fools prank in 1996? Was it Liberty Mutual; Taco Bell; Philidelphia Phillies; or Sylvester Stallone. Now you can make your choice.
How many US states begin with the letter D? 0: 1; 2; 3 ?
Challenge:
Psalm 119:81-88 “I am worn out waiting for your rescue, but I have put my hope in your word. 82 My eyes are straining to see your promises come true. When will you comfort me? 83 I am shriveled like a wine skin in the smoke, but I have not forgotten to obey your decrees. 84 How long must I wait? When will you punish those who persecute me? 85 These arrogant people who hate your instructions have dug deep pits to trap me. 86 All your commands are trustworthy. Protect me from those who hunt me down without cause. 87 They almost finished me off, but I refused to abondon your commandments. 88 In your unfailing love, spare my life; then I can continue to obey your laws.”
In this 11th Stanza, Kaph, the writer focuses on the sense of longing and desperation that he feels. So he asks Yahweh to assist him in his escape from those who persecute him. He then emphasizes the fact that he will not allow himself to be stopped from following Yahweh’s diections in life even though he may experience suffering.
The Psalmist describes the feeling that he is in the middle of, yet he is afflicted but not crushed; perplexed but not driven to despair; persecuted but not forsaken; struck down but not destroyed.
Paul spoke of these same feelings that he had to the Corinthian believers in 1 Corinthians 4:8-18 “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed, We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We got knocked down, but we are not destroyed … 13 But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the Psamist had when he said, “I believed God, so I spoke. … 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen, For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”
SO GO WITH GOD for He alone can rescue us from the persecution of life. There is nothing as dependable as God’s Word. So when we are attacked by those who lie, we can always use the “Golden prayer” “Help me”. then we can confidently rest in His unfailing love.
